Senior League v Bornacoola
The Seniors made the long trip to Bornacoola on Saturday evening for the last away game in the Senior League and came away with a win. Only sixteen players were available to travel. This turned out to be a close entertaining game with the home side getting a goal in the opening minutes. The Gaels came back well and took some good scores and went in at the break, leading by two points. The second half was close and Bornacoola came back to draw level, but the Gaels got the all important winning point in the dying minutes.

Championship Quarter Final v St. Marys
The seniors finished their involvement in the Senior Championship on Saturday evening when they were defeated by St. Marys in the quarter final replay.
This was a game that the Gaels could have won on their first half performance, but luck was not on their side. A goal line clearance and a post prevented the Gaels from getting the vital goal that possibly would have got them through.
In the second half they did not perform as well and did not create enough chances. St. Marys finished stronger and are now in the semi- final.
The club would like to thank the mentors, players and everyone who put in such a great effort in the championship this year. The experience will help the younger players and no doubt the Gaels will be strong again next year.

Championship Quarter Final v St Marys
Anyone lucky enough to be in Drumshanbo last Saturday evening to see Melvin Gaels take on St Marys in the senior championship witnessed a great game of football. It was a close game which went down to the wire. Both teams will claim they should have won, but they will have to meet again next Saturday evening in Drumshanbo at 5pm. There were some great scores, missed chances, disputed scores and periods of great football and very few bad tackles. As good a game as is likely to be seen this year and it was played in difficult conditions.
Good luck to Gerry, Seamie and all the lads on Saturday

Senior League v Gortletterragh
The Seniors had a good win over Gortletterragh on Sunday in Melvin Park .The game was played in terrible weather conditions. Both sides found scores hard to come by. The Gaels played against the wind and after a shaky start when they conceded two goals the held the ball and scored three points. The home side trailed by five points at the break and then took control in the second half with the storm behind them. A great goal from Paul Brennan put the Gaels in front, but it took a brilliant double save from goalkeeper, Peter Reilly, late in the game to ensure the two points went to the home side. Final Score was Melvin Gaels 1-8, Gortletteragh 2-2.
Division 3 League v Eslin
Despite a brave effort the Junior team were narrowly beaten by Eslin in a game directly after the Senior game. Because of injuries and players not available, a number of players who lined out for the seniors took the field again for the juniors. Nevertheless had they been able to take the scores created in the second half they would have won the game. Well done to all the players and management who performed so well in both games.
Games coming up
On Saturday next the Juniors travel to Glencar Manorhamilton for a Division 3 game at 7pm and on Sunday the Senior team travel to Carrick on Shannon for a Senior League game against St Marys at 1.30pm.

Senior League v Mohill
On Easter Monday the senior team travelled to Mohill and new manager Gerry Mullaney was rewarded with a win in his first competitive game in charge. This was an entertaining match against a strong Mohill side with the home team going in at half time 5 points up. The Gaels had a lot to do in the second half playing against the wind but a patient passing game saw the team get the scores that drew them closer to Mohill. The decisive moment of the game was a well taken Tom Lipsett goal that involved 15 passes. The final score was Mohill 2-06, Melvin Gaels 1-11.Team: Peter O’Reilly, Stephen Clancy, Fabian McMorrow, Sean Gallagher, Shane Ryan, Keith McGloin, Donal Clancy, Stephen McGurrin, BB Brennan, Jonnie Connolly, Paul Brennan, James Bredin, Peter McGowan, Tom Lipsett, and Patrick McGowan
