Senior League v Gortletterragh
The Seniors had a good win over Gortletterragh on Sunday in Melvin Park .The game was played in terrible weather conditions. Both sides found scores hard to come by. The Gaels played against the wind and after a shaky start when they conceded two goals the held the ball and scored three points. The home side trailed by five points at the break and then took control in the second half with the storm behind them. A great goal from Paul Brennan put the Gaels in front, but it took a brilliant double save from goalkeeper, Peter Reilly, late in the game to ensure the two points went to the home side. Final Score was Melvin Gaels 1-8, Gortletteragh 2-2.
Division 3 League v Eslin
Despite a brave effort the Junior team were narrowly beaten by Eslin in a game directly after the Senior game. Because of injuries and players not available, a number of players who lined out for the seniors took the field again for the juniors. Nevertheless had they been able to take the scores created in the second half they would have won the game. Well done to all the players and management who performed so well in both games.
Games coming up
On Saturday next the Juniors travel to Glencar Manorhamilton for a Division 3 game at 7pm and on Sunday the Senior team travel to Carrick on Shannon for a Senior League game against St Marys at 1.30pm.
Good Luck to all the players and management.

Senior League v Mohill
On Easter Monday the senior team travelled to Mohill and new manager Gerry Mullaney was rewarded with a win in his first competitive game in charge. This was an entertaining match against a strong Mohill side with the home team going in at half time 5 points up. The Gaels had a lot to do in the second half playing against the wind but a patient passing game saw the team get the scores that drew them closer to Mohill. The decisive moment of the game was a well taken Tom Lipsett goal that involved 15 passes. The final score was Mohill 2-06, Melvin Gaels 1-11.Team: Peter O’Reilly, Stephen Clancy, Fabian McMorrow, Sean Gallagher, Shane Ryan, Keith McGloin, Donal Clancy, Stephen McGurrin, BB Brennan, Jonnie Connolly, Paul Brennan, James Bredin, Peter McGowan, Tom Lipsett, and Patrick McGowan

Cycle Run – A Great Success
On Sunday 17th February, Melvin Gaels held the inaugural ‘Tour De Melvin’, a fun cycle around the famous North Leitrim lake, in aid of the Lydia Branley Trust Fund and the Melvin Gaels Player Injury Fund.
Over 120 competitors eagerly participated on what was fortunately a beautiful, crisp spring morning. All who took part thoroughly enjoyed it and agreed that it should become an annual event.
The huge success of the cycle is owed, firstly to the competitors, but also to the sponsors; Noel McGowan Spar, Shane Gallagher Drowes Salmon Fishery, BMG Hardware Bundoran, Simpsons Kinlough, The Courthouse Restaurant, Al Connolly Butchers and Teds Bike Shop Donegal Town, to all those who collected sponsorship and those who gave very generously to the cause, and to those who provided refreshments on the day.
To date €1000 has been raised for each cause and we hope to maintain the success of this event for years to come.

A Good Weekend
The Senior team had a great win over a good Mohill team in Ballinamore on Saturday evening last. They got off to a good start but Mohill came back and levelled. A Gaels penalty ensured they lead by a goal at the break, 1-08 to 0-08.
They controlled the second half and were worthy winners on a scoreline of 2-12 to 1-11.
On Sunday the second team took on Aughnasheelin in the Intermediate Championship and secured a good win on a scoreline of 3-6 to 0-11.
It was also good to see Colin Regan back playing Championship football after his serious injury. He made a very good contribution in the win over Aughnasheelin in Drumkeerin.
Well done to all concerned.

The Championship
The first team played Glencar/Manorhamilton on Saturday evening last in Pairc Sean and this turned out to be the usual close encounter. The first half was a very low scoring affair and the Gaels went into the break two points down (0-03 to 0-01) the second half was a bit better, the Gaels played a lot better and in the dying minutes led 0-07 to 0-05, but Glencar/Manor came back and levelled again. Both sides will feel they could have won the game, but draw was a fair result in the end.
The second team took on Cloone in the Intermediate Championship on Sunday and were always going to find it difficult. Nevertheless they put on a brave display and if they had been more accurate in front of goal it could have been a different story.
Final score was Cloone 2-07, Melvin Gaels 1-04.
Well done to both teams and the mentors.

Game v Mohill Division 3 League
The second team travelled to Mohill for a division 3 game on Friday evening last.
They were defeated by the home side by three points.
This was a very entertaining game and it could have gone either way. A good start by the home team seen them go four points ahead and this meant that the Gaels had to work hard to get into the game and they did and then scored 1-5 to go four points ahead. Mohill then scored 1-5 as well and went in at the break four points ahead.
The Gaels fought hard in the second half but could not get the scores they needed to get something from the game.
Final score Mohill 1-13, Melvin Gaels 1-10.

0League Game v Drumreilly
The seniors secured a win in the first League game when they overcame Drumreily on Sunday in Melvin Park. The Gaels controlled the game and were deserving winners.
Drumreilly got off to a flying start with a goal in the opening minutes, but the Gaels soon took control a finished the half strongly and went four points ahead. Two goals from James Bredin in the second half gave the Gaels a comfortable win in the end.
There is plenty of room for improvement, but its important to get off to a winning start so well done to all concerned.

0Double Joy in Ballinamore
The Junior team put in great performance in Ballinamore when they defeated a very good Mohill team by three points to win the Junior A Championship final.
This was a very entertaining game for any neutral. The result was in doubt up to the last minute. The Gaels showed great character to come back from six points down in the first quarter.
It was a good sporting game played in near perfect conditions on a great surface.
Congratulations to each and every one of the players on the Junior panel who worked so hard to win this Junior championship.
Well done also to the mentors Peter, Dessie and John.
Thanks to Michelle Brennan who did such a great job looking after any injuries at the Junior Final on Sunday and also at the Intermediate Final the previous Saturday.
