Senior League
The Senior League got under way in Melvin Park on Sunday when the Gaels took on Dromahair in the first Senior League game of 2013.

Despite a number of players missing through injury, the Gaels played some great football in the first half of the game, and went into the break two points ahead. In the second half with the wind behind them the Gaels failed to match the first half performance and missed a number of scoring chances, hitting the crossbar in the process. Credit to Dromahaire they made better use of the chances they had and finished a point ahead. Thanks to the Dromahaire team for applauding the Melvin Gaels team on to the pitch in recognition of winning the Senior Championship in 2012.

Next up for the seniors is a home game against Glencar/Manorhamilton on Sunday next.

The Juniors start off the League with a game away to Mohill on Saturday next.

Great Championship win for Minors
On Sunday afternoon, in Ballinamore, the Minors defeated Annaduff to win the 13 a side Minor Championship. The first half was close, but the Gaels turned on the style in the second and played some fantastic football to win very comfortably in the end. There were great celebrations in Kinlough when these young lads arrived back.

The future looks bright for this group of players and there’s no doubt they are capable of bringing more silverware back to Kinlough in the coming years.

Well done to all the panel and their mentors Liam Gilmartin and John Gallagher.

In the Final!
On Saturday evening there were jubilant scenes in Pairc Sean when the Senior team comfortably defeated a young Aughawillan team to reach the Senior Final against near neighbours Glencar/Manorhamilton on Sunday September 7th. This is a fantastic achievement when you consider that this Melvin Gaels team took part in, and won, the Intermediate Championship in 2011.

All the panel of players and the mentors, Billy, Liam and Aiden are to be congratulated.

Hopefully this will be a great sporting occasion between the two North Leitrim teams – a very successful Glencar/Manor team, going for five in a row, and an upcoming Melvin Gaels team. We all look forward to the last Sunday in September!

Thanks to Our Sponsors
The Club would like to thank Erin Recyclers for the very kind sponsorship of Jerseys for the Senior team.

Well Done to the Minors
Congratulations to the Minor Team that defeated Carrigallen last week to qualify for the 13 a side final which will be against Annaduff. No date has yet been selected for this final. Well done to all.

Good Luck to the Leitrim Lads
The Club would like to wish the Leitrim team and mentors good luck in the game against Wicklow on Saturday evening.

Good Luck to the Gaels lads, Paul, Emlyn, Conor and Fabian.

A Lot of Football at the weekend
For reasons that are difficult to understand, the Club had to play a Division 3 game on Friday , another Division 3 game on Saturday and a Shield game on Sunday. With about forty adult players available to the Club and four of these ineligible due to Senior County commitments, not counting injuries, it was always going to be difficult.

Nevertheless great credit must go to the players who put in such a great effort and a good few played in all three games.

On Friday evening the second team travelled to Carrick on Shannon and came away with well very deserved draw against St Marys, Final Score was St Marys 2-05, Melvin Gaels 1-08.

On Saturday evening they made another long trip to Balinamore and suffered a narrow defeat to Sean O Heslins. Final score Sean O Heslins, 1-09, Melvin Gaels 0-10. Melvin Gaels played the whole second half of this game with fourteen players after a player got two yellow cards in the first half.

On Sunday at 1.30pm the Shield game against Aughawillan took place in Melvin Park. The Gaels got a deserved victory in this game on a final score of Melvin Gaels 2-11, Aughawillan 1-08. The Gaels had to finish this game with fourteen players, not because they had a player sent off but because they suffered injuries to players and had used all substitutes.

The Club would like to thank all players who turned out for all three games and, although some were barely able to walk at half three on Sunday, they did not complain.

With mass emigration, player burn out, and competition with other sports it’s hard to see how the events of last weekend can help.

Believe it or not there is no adult game scheduled for this weekend!

Another win for the Minors
The Minors had another good win on Saturday when they defeated Garadice Gaels in Melvin Park. Well done to all.

Senior League Game v Dromahair
On Sunday the Seniors took on Dromahair in the Senior League. This was a close encounter and both teams will feel they could have won. In the end a draw was a fair result. The visitors played with the wind in the first have and should have went in at the break more than one point ahead.

In the second half the Gaels came back well and went into the lead, but Dromahair fought hard and got an equalising point from a free in the dying seconds.

Final score Melvin Gaels 0-8, Dromahair 0-8.

Minor League Final
The final last Wednesday evening turned out to be one of the best games of the year so far. The large crowd of supporters from Kinlough were disappointed with the result but very proud of the performance that these young players produced. This was a game that the Gaels could and probably should have won, having led by seven points with about ten minutes of normal time to go. The confusion and delay concerning the score at the end of normal time did not help either team going into extra time. It’s hard to understand why the scoreboard was not in use for this final.

Nevertheless, well done to Liam, Fergal and all the young lads. No doubt these lads will compete in many more finals in the years ahead

Championship Begins
The Intermediate Championship begins next Sunday when the Gaels take on Ballinaglera in the first game round of Group Three.

This game is in Pairc Sean at 2pm.

Good luck to Billy, Brian and all the lads.

League Game v Drumreilly
On Saturday evening the Gaels recorded a five point win over Drumreilly in the senior league.

This game was played in terrible conditions and it was difficult to play any good football.

Final score was Melvin Gaels 1-8, Drumreilly 0-6.

Thanks
The Club would like to thank Dympna and Simon Foley of SDF Developments who sponsored footballs for the team.

Shield Final
No joy for the Gaels on Sunday when they were narrowly beaten by Bornacoola on Sunday on a scoreline of 1-10 to 0-11.

The Gaels dominated the first half of the game and went into the break leading by five points and the margin would have been greater if they had taken more of the chances they had. They stared the second half well, but when they conceded a penalty with about fifteen minutes to go, Bornacoola went on to finish strongly.

Next up is a Senior League game against Drumreilly on Saturday evening, in Drumreilly.

Throw in for this game is 7pm.

Sympathy
The Club extends deepest sympathy to the Gallagher family Knockenroe, Kinlough on the death of their mother Dolly.

May she rest in peace.

Junior League Game v Glencar/Manor
No joy for the Juniors in Manorhamilton on Sunday when they took on the home side.

The game was close all the way through with some good football played by both sides, in perfect conditions, Glencar/Manorhamilton got off to a great start with an early goal but the Gaels came back well and drew level only to concede another goal before the break to go in two points down.

In the third quarter the home were on top and went four points ahead.
In the last ten minutes the Gaels worked hard and finished strongly but could not get the scores they needed to get something from the game.

Senior League v St Marys-Kiltoghert
On Saturday evening in Bundoran the Gaels senior team took on St Marys-Kiltoghert in the second senior league game of the year.

The game was played in Bundoran because Melvin Park was covered in snow at one o clock on Saturday.

There have been many close games between these two sides over the last few years and the Gaels usually came out second best, but on Saturday evening they produced a great display of good football and finished deserving winners on a scoreline of 0-16 to 1-04.

The Gaels got off to a poor start and St Marys were 1-01 to no score ahead after a few minutes. But Melvin Gaels then started to play well and scored six points from play to go in at the break just one point behind, 1-04 to 0-06.

In the second half the Gaels continued to play some great football and St Marys had no answer and they failed to register a score while Melvin Gaels added another ten points.

It would be difficult to pick a player that stood out for the Gaels because this was an all round good team performance.

The Melvin Gaels team and scorers was: Jesse Mc Guinness, Colm McGowan, Fabian McMorrow, Shane Ryan, Donal Clancy, Paul Brennan, Paul Mc Gurran (0-2), Martin McCarron, Stephen McGurran (0-3), Conor Sheridan (0-3), David McSharry (0-3), Joe McGowan, Emlyn Mulligan (0-2), BB Brennan (0-2) and Jonathan Connolly.

Subs: Stephen Clancy, Anthony Tiffoney (0-1), James Phelan, Dermot Clancy, Tom Lipsett, Sean Lipsett, Paul Rooney, Patrick Mc Gowan and Sean Kilkenny.

The Club would like to thank Bundoran Club for the use of their facilities for the game.

Well done to all the lads and Billy and Brian.
