The Late Peter Feeley
There was shock and sadness in the Club and in the wider Community at the news of the sad and sudden death of Peter Feeley, Moniengaugagh, Glenade.
Peter was a very popular player with the Gaels before going off to work in England. He was always a great supporter of Melvin Gaels and of Leitrim down the years. He was there to celebrate on October the 4th, 1998 when the Gaels beat hot favourites Sean O’Heslins to win the Senior Final. Last year, fourteen years later, almost to the day, October the 7th, Peter was back again in Pairc Sean, to see his beloved Gaels beat four in a row winners Glencar/Manorhamilton to win the Senior Final again. This time Peter was even more delighted because his nephew, Stephen Clancy, played a great game for the Gaels. He was a proud man at the final whistle and his broad smile said it all.
Deepest Sympathy is extended to his sister, Mary Clancy, brothers, Con, Pat and Martin and all his many relatives and many friends.
May He Rest in Peace.

The Club would like to wish good luck to all the Leitrim Team and management in the game in New York at the weekend.

Great Night of Celebrations
Friday night in the Allingham Arms Hotel Bundoran was a night when Melvin Gaels celebrated what was a fantastic year for the small North Leitrim Club. This year has turned out to be one of the most successful in the Club’s history, when the Gaels won the Leitrim Senior County Championship, beating rivals and four ‘in a row winners’, Glencar/Manorhamilton in the final. As well, the Minors, Under 16’s and Under 14’s won their respective Championships. There was a lot to celebrate on Friday night, and Donegal All-Ireland winner, David Walsh, came along to present the Senior medals. David congratulated the team and said it was a great achievement for such a small club remarked how bright the future looks for Melvin Gaels, having done so well at underage. David Mc Sharry, Senior team captain presented the minor medals on the night.
Billy Gavigan, senior manager, complimented all the players for the fantastic effort they put in over the year. Brendan Brennan (BB) was selected as Senior Player of the year and Patrick Mc Gowan was selected as Intermediate Player of the year. Club Notes 13.11.2012
League Final
No joy for the Seniors on Sunday in the Senior League Final against Glencar/Manorhamilton in Pairc Sean when they were beaten by the narrowest of margins. The Gaels never produced the kind of football they played in the Senior Championship final. After missing a number of scoring chances in the first half they went into the break scoreless, but were still only two points down, so there was very little between the teams.
In the second half the Gaels played better football, and some great scores from Emlyn Mulligan meant the final whistle arrived with both sides having scored six points. It was the extra time that decided the contest, with Glencar/Manorhamilton getting an all important goal and although the Gaels got two more points they were unable to get the point that would have brought a replay.
In eighty minutes of football the crowd saw only fifteen scores in all, eight from the Gaels and seven from Manorhamilton, numerous yellow cards and inevitably two red, as well as a lot of strange refereeing decisions.
This was not the kind of game that we would like to see every weekend. The only thing that kept the game interesting was the closeness of the score. Well done to all the lads and the mentors who did so well over the year in the league and brought the Senior Championship title to Kinlough.
Congratulations to Glencar/Manorhamilton on their win.
Good Luck
Good luck and best wishes to Paul Mc Gurrin and his girlfriend Celine McConnan on their travels.

Connacht Championship
The long trip to Kiltoom on Sunday proved fruitless for the seniors when they were well beaten by St Brigids playing on their home ground. Why a game like this has to be played on a club’s home ground is hard to understand. Nevertheless, in the first half of the game the Gaels were the better team and should have gone in at the break well ahead. In the second half the experience of the home side told and they finished the game well ahead. The scoreline did not do the Gaels justice as they missed a lot of chances right throughout the game.
A word of thanks to all the supporters who made the long trip to the outskirts of Athlone for the game and well done to all the lads and the mentors who have done the Club proud this year
Under 16 Champions!
The Under 16 team added a third Championship at Under age for the Gaels when they followed the Under 14s and the Minors to win the 13 a side Championship on Saturday evening in Pairc Seam this was a spirited performance by these young lads and they dominated the game from the throw in. Kiltubrid fought hard, but were outplayed by this very impressive Gaels team.
Congratulations and well done to all the lads and to mentors, Mark Cleary, Blaine Mulligan and Paul Rooney.
Club Hoodies
Anyone wishing to buy the new Club Hoodies please note that they are now for sale at Mc Gowan’s Spar, Kinlough.
