Great Night of Celebrations
Friday night in the Allingham Arms Hotel Bundoran was a night when Melvin Gaels celebrated what was a fantastic year for the small North Leitrim Club. This year has turned out to be one of the most successful in the Club’s history, when the Gaels won the Leitrim Senior County Championship, beating rivals and four ‘in a row winners’, Glencar/Manorhamilton in the final. As well, the Minors, Under 16’s and Under 14’s won their respective Championships. There was a lot to celebrate on Friday night, and Donegal All-Ireland winner, David Walsh, came along to present the Senior medals. David congratulated the team and said it was a great achievement for such a small club remarked how bright the future looks for Melvin Gaels, having done so well at underage. We Did It !
There were great scenes of delight at the final whistle on Sunday evening in Pairc Sean when the Senior team beat neighbours and ‘Four in a Row’ winners Glencar/Manorhamilton in the Senior County Final. There was a great crowd at the Community Centre and all along the way from Glenade to Tullaghan. The celebrations no doubt will continue for some time. In the game itself the Gaels held the upper hand from start to finish and never allowed the reigning champions to get in front. The final score was Melvin Gaels 2-7, Glencar/Manorhamilton 0-7. The margin could have been much greater if the Gaels had taken all the chances they had, particularly in the first half. There were fine displays from many Gaels players on the day and there were a few contenders for ‘Man of the Match’. Congratulations to Paul Brennan who was the winner. Well done to all the players who have done the Club so proud over the whole year and also to Billy, Liam and Aiden who have worked so hard. They got their deserved reward on Sunday. A word of thanks to all who helped to make Sunday such a memorable day in Pairc Sean and in the homecoming celebrations. It was a proud day for the Club and all associated with it, all over the world. Hopefully this will be repeated on a few more occasions by these great players.
