Championships Begin!
This weekend sees the start of the Championship for the seniors and the Juniors. It seems a short time ago since October 7th 2012, the day when the Gaels were triumphant in the Senior Championship. The campaign, for the Seniors, for 2013 starts on Saturday evening in Drumshanbo when they take on Carrigallen in the first round. Good Luck to all the players and the management, Gerry and Seamus. Throw in for this game is 6pm.

On Sunday the Juniors play Bornacoola in the first round of the Junior A Championship. Good luck to Dessie, Gareth and all the lads. Throw in 3pm.

It’s hoped all the supporters, who followed the teams last year, will travel again this year and cheer on the both teams.

Senior Championship
On Saturday evening the senior team took on Bornacoola in the Championship Quarter Final and came away with a win by the narrowest of margins.

As far as the Gaels team and supporters are concerned the first twenty eight minutes of this game are best forgotten. In the first few minutes Bornacoola scored 1-2 and looked totally in control. The Gaels got the next two scores in the dying minutes of the half and went in at the break three points down. The Gaels were better in the second half and they needed to be. They had a spell where they played some great football and scored six unanswered points. In the end they finished a point ahead. They are now in the Semi-Final and this is a great achievement, but there is a lot of room for improvement on this display.

Well done to all.

League Division 3 v Bornacoola
On Saturday evening the second team suffered a narrow defeat to a strong Bornacoola team in Melvin Park.

This was a very entertaining game and the result was in doubt up to the final whistle.

The Gaels were guilty of some bad misses and in the last minute could have snatched a win when James Bredin, who had an excellent game, hit a post when a goal looked certain.

Shield Final
No joy for the Gaels on Sunday when they were narrowly beaten by Bornacoola on Sunday on a scoreline of 1-10 to 0-11.

The Gaels dominated the first half of the game and went into the break leading by five points and the margin would have been greater if they had taken more of the chances they had. They stared the second half well, but when they conceded a penalty with about fifteen minutes to go, Bornacoola went on to finish strongly.

Next up is a Senior League game against Drumreilly on Saturday evening, in Drumreilly.
