Connacht Championship Semi Final
The first team bowed out of the Connacht Championship on Sunday after being beaten by Davitts of Mayo in the Semi-final on a scoreline of 1-12 to 0-12.

For the Gaels this was a first half best forgotten but in the second half they showed why they have been so successful this year.

Davitts got off to a great start and raced into a half time lead of seven points.

The second half was much better for the Gaels and they played some great football and but for some poor finishing could have won the game.

Although disappointed with the result, the large crowd of Gaels supporters were very proud of their team.

Senior League v Aughawillan
The first team had another good win over Aughawillan in Bundoran on Sunday.

This win means that the Gaels have completed the Senior League of 2011 unbeaten.

This is a fantastic achievement and they are now in the Senior League Final.

The hard work and commitment of the management and all the lads all during the year has been fantastic.

This particular game was as tough as any they have played during the year. In the first half Aughawillan played well and coped with most of what the Gaels could throw at them.

The Gaels missed a number of chances, but still went in five points ahead at the break.

Aughawillan started the second half well but the Gaels gradually took control and finished strongly.

A well worked goal from Blaine Mulligan capped another good Gaels performance.

Final score Melvin Gaels 1-14 Aughawillan 0-7.

The Club would like to thank Bundoran Club for allowing us to use their facilities once again. Bundoran have helped us out a number of times this year and we are grateful to them.

Connacht Intermediate Club Championship
Melvin Gaels 2-21 Coolaney/Mullinabreena 0-07
The win over Coolaney/Mullinabreena turned out to be very comfortable despite the shaky start by the Gaels.

After going behind in the first few minutes of the game the Gaels took control and never looked like losing. When they went into the break eight points ahead, playing against a strong breeze, the result never looked in doubt.

All through the game the Gaels put over some great scores. ‘Man of the Match’, Emlyn Mulligan, converted an early penalty for the Gaels first goal and the second goal came from the very the close runner up for Man of the Match, Peter Mc Gowan.

This is a great achievement for the Gaels. The Community and the many supporters who travelled on Sunday are very proud of these lads.

Well done to Billy, Brian and all the panel and everyone who worked so well on the day.

Senior League v Glenfarne/Kiltyclogher
On a very wet afternoon the Gaels first team took on neighbours Glenfarne/Kiltyclogher in the second last game of the Senior League in Blacklion.

Despite the very damp conditions the pitch was in excellent condition. The Gaels took control from the start and scored some excellent points and finished first half leading by 0-11 to 0-1. The second half was a closer affair and Glenfarne/ Kiltyclogher scored 1-5 to the Gaels 0-5.

Nevertheless the Gaels were worthy winners in the end on a scoreline of 0-16 to 1-6.

Well done to all concerned.

Double Joy in Ballinamore
The Junior team put in great performance in Ballinamore when they defeated a very good Mohill team by three points to win the Junior A Championship final.

This was a very entertaining game for any neutral. The result was in doubt up to the last minute. The Gaels showed great character to come back from six points down in the first quarter.

It was a good sporting game played in near perfect conditions on a great surface.

Congratulations to each and every one of the players on the Junior panel who worked so hard to win this Junior championship.

Well done also to the mentors Peter, Dessie and John.

Thanks to Michelle Brennan who did such a great job looking after any injuries at the Junior Final on Sunday and also at the Intermediate Final the previous Saturday.

The Club would like to also thank the large numbers who travelled again to Ballinamore to support the lads.

There was another great welcome for the team when they arrived back in the village on Sunday evening.

Thanks also to Gordon McGowan for taking photographs at the game.

Back to the League on Sunday
It’s back to the Senior League on Sunday when the first team travel to Glenfarne/Kiltyclogher on Sunday for Round 10 of the League.

Throw in for this game is 2pm.
