Under 14 Final
No joy for the Under 14s in the Final last Friday. It was a great achievement by this very young team to reach the Final. Well done to all concerned.

Junior Championship
The Juniors had a great win in Pairc Sean last Saturday evening against Bornacoola. Against all the odds, they produced a great team performance to win by nine points.
At half time they looked out of the championship, when they went in a point down. In the second half they played some great football and scored some great points to win comfortably in the end. Well done to all.

Relegation Game
On Sunday the Seniors take on Drumreilly at 5.30pm in Drumshanbo in a relegation game. Good luck to all involved.

Sympathy
The Club extends sympathy to the Mulligan Family on the death of Grace’s mother, Annie Coyle, in Falcarragh, Co Donegal.
May She Rest In Peace.

Lotto
The numbers drawn in the Melvin Gaels Lotto held in The Melvin Hotel on Sunday night August 8 were- 1, 8, 22 and 23.
There was no Jackpot winner.

Other winners were €40, Yvonne Carolan, Dartry View, Kinlough, €20 each, Christopher Branley, Muckrim, Niall Clancy Edenville and Chris Ferguson, Rossinver.
Next Draw in the Diamond Bar Tullaghan on Sunday August 22.

Jackpot €1,400.

Another defeat for the Seniors
The Seniors were beaten by Sean O’Heslins on a scoreline of 2-04 to 1-10 on Saturday evening in Pairc Sean.

The Gaels were never in the game in the first half and went in at the break two points behind. This could have been worse if Gareth Phelan had not pulled off two great saves.

Having had a player sent off (Colm McGowan) the Gaels were always going to have difficulty getting anything from the game.

Nevertheless the Gaels put in a much better performance in the second period and went into the lead halfway through.

Once again it was the same old story, the Melvin Gaels players could not get the scores they needed and Sean O’Heslins got the all important goal which came from a 45 which found its way to the net.

Overall the performance from the Gaels in both games was not good enough.

Minors Going Well
The Gaels Minor team are going well in the Championship, drawing with Dromahaire in Melvin Park in a game played in terrible conditions and getting a very good win in Annaduff last week.

This week they take on Leitrim Gaels in Melvin Park.

Good Luck to all the lads and their mentors.

Speedy Recovery
The Club is delighted to hear that Gerry Mc Gurran is making a good recovery from his recent accident.

We all hope to see back on the lorry soon!

Lotto
The numbers drawn in the Melvin Gaels Lotto held in The Home, Rossinver on Sunday night were- 10, 18,19 and 24.

There was no Jackpot winner.

Other winners were, €40, Colm Mc Gowan, Edenville, Kinlough, €20 each, David Mc Gloin, Glenade, Catherine Sheridan, Kinlough and Colm Mc Gowan, Kinlough.

Next draw on Sunday August 8 in The Melvin Hotel.

Jackpot €1,350.

No Joy in First Game
The Seniors finished up losing to Mohill by three points on Saturday evening in Pairc Sean.

They performed reasonably well in the first half and were unlucky to go into the break a point behind, thanks to a late goal from Mohill. In the second half things seemed to go all wrong and the Gaels just could not put the ball over the bar.

Five points in any game is not good enough and things will have to improve greatly if they hope to progress any further in the Championship.

It will be a tough assignment again on Saturday evening against Sean O’Heslins.

Good luck to all the players and mentors.

Throw in for the game is 7.30pm.

Junior Championship Begins
On Monday at 2.30pm the Juniors take on Gortletterragh in Drumshanbo in the first game of the Junior Championship.

Good luck to all the lads and Peter, Aiden and John who have put in a lot of work with the Juniors this year.

Div 4 Match report – Annaduff v Melvin Gaels

Jun 29th

Posted by melving in match reports

The Melvin Gaels junior team recorded a 2-11 to 2-7 victory over Annaduff in a game where few expected a win was possible. Struggling to muster a team together, the Gaels set out on the long drive on Sunday morning with the bare fifteen that included injured and Sea Sessioned men!

Played in changeable conditions, the Gaels opened the scoring with a Jonathon Connolly free in what was a balanced opening ten minutes. Annaduff took control of the game early in the first half and hit an unanswered 2-4 in a fifteen minute spell. This did not affect the Gaels resolve as the midfield pairing of Pat Gallagher and Michael Tiffoney worked immensely hard to gain possession throughout the half and worked the ball into a forward line that was hungry for scores. Roper, Connolly, McGuinness, the workhorse Clancy and Kilkenny constantly showed for ball however the Gael’s conversion rate was low in the first half due to a lack of inter-play between the forwards. Nonetheless, the Gaels walked in at half time having put 5 points on the score board to Annaduff’s 2-5. The highlight of the first half was a long run from defence by Blaine Mulligan which ended in a fine point, a statement of intent by the Gaels captain. The other scores in the half came from Roper, Tiffoney and Connolly (0-2).

With a strong team spirit the Gaels emerged as a different team in the second half. The opening ten minutes saw the Gaels midfield dominate the centre of the park with Tiffoney sending in long probing passes into a forward line who were now working hard off each other. A series of quick attacks involving good interplay saw the Gaels hit an unanswered 2-3 with goals from McGuiness and Kilkenny and points from Connolly, Kilkenny and O’Reilly. Annaduff worked hard to get back into the match but were restricted to 2 points by a hard working Gaels defence and forward line that hassled the Annaduff defence every time they tried to break forward. The Gaels saw out what was a sporting game with another fine Connolly point and 2 more points from O’Reilly.

The win bodes well for the Junior team’s championship ambitions in August. What was evident on Sunday and what has been a trait of this team all season is the fine team spirit amongst the lads and the collective resolve to stand together in the face of adversity.

Team and scorers as follows: Shane Ryan, Sean Kilkenny, Bernard McGowan, Sean Lipsett, Blaine Mulligan (c) (0-1), Matthew McGloin, Patrick McGowan, Michael Tiffoney (0-1), Pat Gallagher, Donal Clancy, Jesse McGuinness (1-0), Declan Roper (0-1), Patrick Kilkenny (1-1), Peter O’Reilly (0-3), Jonathon Connolly (0-4)

Senior Game v Glencar/Manor
The Seniors finished second best on Saturday evening when they took on Glencar/Manorhamilton in Melvin Park.

This was the usual close encounter between these two teams who have had some great tussles over the last few years.

The Gaels performed very well in the first quarter and went into a four point lead before Glencar/Manor got going. The Gaels gave away a number of frees and went in at the break a point ahead. 0-4 to 0-3.

The second half started even enough, but in the last quarter the away team finished stronger, even thought the Gaels kept in touch.

The final score was Melvin Gaels 0-8. Glencar/Manor 0-12.

This Gaels team will have to show a big improvement before the Championship gets underway in a few weeks time.

Lotto
The number drawn in the Melvin Gaels Lotto draw which was held in McGloins on Sunday night were: 7, 11, 17, and 21. There was no jackpot winner.
