Club Notices March 2003
UNDER 21 CHAMPIONSHIP
Gaels started and finished their 2002 Under 21 Championship on Bank Holiday weekend. We defeated Bornacoola in an entertaining game on Bank Holiday
Saturday and on St.Patrick’s Day, we were defeated by Kiltubrid in Pairc Sean.
It’s a pity because in my belief, Gaels had enough firepower to go all the way in the Championship. However, the County Board’s runing of this grade
of football has a lot to be desired, a 2002 Championship run off over a Bank Holiday weekend in March 2003.
UNDER 16 CHAMPIONSHIP
Gaels Under 16 team defeated Annaduff on Saturday last in the First Round of the Round Robin series. A good all round team display with some good
individual performances by Alan McGeever and Declan McGloin in the forwards.
Dermot Clancy caught the eye in defence while the pride of Rossinver, Jessie McGuinness, had a solid game between the posts. We now face St.
Mary’s on Saturday next in the second round. Check with Marcus for times of departure. Training continues on Tuesday and Thursday at 7 pm sharp.
SYMPATHY
Melvin Gaels GFC and everybody associated with the club would like to extend their deepest sympathy to our P.P. Fr. Thos Keoghan on the death of his
brother Vincent. May his soul and the souls of all the faithfully departed rest in peace.
SENIOR LEAGUE
Gaels face Sean O’Heslins next weekend in the first round of the Senior League in Ballinamore next Sunday. Check the Observer for time of throw-in.
WELL DONE
To Glenfarne clubman Joe Keaney who has stopped destroying defences for a while in order take up the whistle job. I have watched Joe a couple of
times and he is progressing nicley. Its god to see young men starting to get involved as referees. Its surely
the way forward. Well done Joe.
LOTTO
Draw takes place next weekend in the Anglers Rest. Sellers for this one are James McGowan and Vincent Rooney. So buy a ticket if your not in you can’t
win.
STARS IN YOUR EYES
Well the big man from Longford, Dessie Sheridan, has pulled it off again, for the third time in ten years. Dessie managed to fill the hotels in
Bundoran to capacity. Not bad for a man who says he can’t sing. Well done to the Full Monty group from Rossinver representing Gilbrides pub
we were winners on the night. In fact, well done to all groups who took part.
TIFFONEY DOWN UNDER
News from Down Under is good. Joseph Tiffoney played his first game for the Sydney Lambs and he did very well. Joe scored 112 before being caught by
the opposition wicket keeper who hails from Bornacoola. Complete match report next week.
