Club Notes 15th December 2003
League Division 4 Winners
There were more jubilant scenes in Ballinaglera on Saturday evening when the
North Leitrim Gaels overcame their southern counterparts in another closely
fought final. Melvin Gaels again fought hard for this victory which
overall was well deserved.
The conditions were not suited to free flowing football but both sides produce
some good patches in this game . Melvin Gaels came out winners in the end, but
Allen Gaels will rue some glaring misses in the second half.
Melvin Gaels, playing with the breeze behind them, went into the break a point
ahead. Allen Gaels had won most of the possession but Melvin Gaels defended
well.
In the second half Melvin Gaels coped well with the pressure from Allen Gaels
and when the veteran Simon Foley put the ball in the Allen Gaels net we knew the
cup was going north.
This was another fantastic victory and these young and not so young players have
done the club proud.
Hopefully this will help to spur on the Club to greater heights in the years
ahead.
There were some outstanding displays from some of the younger players during
this game, but, when the chips were down some of the more experienced players
showed what it takes to win trophies. It would not be fair to single out any
player from Melvin Gaels for praise, but its not an exaggeration to say that all
players, first team and subs gave everything they had on the day.
Congratulations to Dessie and Terry. Their hard work over the year has paid off
in the end.
Thanks to Padraig Rooney for doing the video of the Game.
Thanks to the Wellington Bar for supplying food on the return to Kinlough on
