Club Notes 19th September 2005
GAA Unsung Hero Award
The Club would like to congratulate Michael Mc Gowan, who has won the regional Ocean FM/Bank of Ireland GAA Unsung Hero Award.
Michael now represents Leitrim and Ocean FM on Saturday night at the All Ireland awards.
Patricia Hill nominated Michael for this award and they will both attend the Awards Banquet in the Hilton Hotel, Dublin with overnight stay and All Ireland Tickets.
Michael now has a chance to win the overall prize of €15,000 and Patricia could win €5,000.
Michael is a very worthy recipient of the this award as he has worked tirelessly for the GAA in his own club Melvin Gaels, in Leitrim and during his time with the De la Salle College, Ballyshannon. Michael still continues to work at all levels with his own club Melvin Gaels.
In his usual modest way Michael says it’s a great honour for him to represent Melvin Gaels, Leitrim and Ocean FM in Dublin next Saturday night.
We all wish Michael and Patricia Good Luck and an enjoyable weekend.
Congratulations
Melvin Gaels would like to congratulate Kiltubrid on winning the Senior Championship and also congratulate Glencar/Manor on winning the Intermediate Championship.
Under 10 Blitz
Kinlough was the venue for one of the three Under 10 blitzes organised by Bord na Nog for last Saturday. In Kinlough, teams from Gortletterragh, Mohill, Dromahaire, Glencar Manor and Melvin Gaels competed in what was a most sporting and entertaining day of football. This was the second such competition run this year and its success stems from the fact that there are no trophies on offer with no winners or losers.
The standard of football was extremely high with a mere kick of a ball the difference in most games. Credit must go to Jimmy Holohan, Enda Stenson and Brian Gordon who refereed the games and ensured the smooth running of the competition.
Credit also to Melvin Gaels, Bord na Nog, who had the pitches marked for the occasion.
Minerals were laid on by the organisers for the thirsty participants and these were much appreciated.
The Melvin Gaels Club had organised a Barbecue and this was a big hit with all. Thanks to Pete and Frances Mc Gowan for the use of the barbecue, and all who helped with the supplying of the delicious food.
Finally the Melvin Gaels Bord na Nog would like to thank Al and Karen Connolly of Connolly Meats, Kinlough for their very generous sponsorship of a new set of jerseys for our Under 10 team, which were worn with pride for the very first time.
Thanks also to Charlie Simpson who sponsored a number of training footballs for the Under 10 team.
It is hoped to have photographs of the blitz published later.
