Club Notes 28th November 2005
Champions Again
On Saturday afternoon the Gaels Under 21 team made it “Three in a Row” when they comprehensively beat Drumkeerin in the B Championship Final. This was a fantastic display by the young Gaels team and the result was never in doubt after they went 1-1 to no score up after about five minutes into the game. It would be difficult to pick a ‘man of the match’ as every player performed well and the team dominated all over the field. Drumkeerin, whom we know to be a very good team, were never allowed to get going at all. The final score was Melvin Gaels 3-10 Drumkeerin 0-2. There were great celebrations when the Melvin Gaels captain, Fabian Mc Morrow, who at this stage could nearly be described as a Gaels veteran, received the cup from the Leitrim County Chairman, Gerry Mc Govern.
Congratulations to Gareth Phelan and all this great panel of players. The team was in fantastic shape and played some great football in all three games in this competition.
Great credit must go to Gareth for getting such dedication and commitment from these young players. Hopefully this great success, which the Gaels have had in 2005 at Under 21, Minor and all levels of Underage, will follow through to the seniors. There is no reason why many of the players in Pairc Sean on Saturday should not play for Club and County in the very near future and for a good few years to come.
The Melvin Gaels team and scorers was: Jesse Mc Guinness, Colm Mc Gowan, Kalem Regan, Kevin Kelly, Fabian Mc Morrow (Captain), Paul Mc Gurran(1-0), Stephen Mc Gurran (1-1), David Mc Sharry (1-5), Fergal Gallagher (0-1), Paul Brennan, Conor Sheridan (0-1), Emyln Mulligan (0-2) and Damien Sheridan. Subs: Dermot Clancy, Christopher Branley, Matthew Mc Gloin, Ciaran Regan, Kieran Curneen, John Gallagher, Alan Mc Geever, Blaine Mulligan and Joe Mc Gowan.
A word of thanks to Ciara who prepared hot food in the Community Centre on Saturday evening, it was very much appreciated by all concerned.
