This was a dress rehearsal for the first round of the senior championship in two weeks time, against Annaduff, and the Gaels will have to perform much better if the are to do well this year.

Four Masters NS Success
History was made in Four Masters N.S on Tuesday evening last when the boys school team won the Division one school league, thus completing a unique double following on the girls success earlier in the year. It has been a wonderful year on the G.A.A. fields for the school. On Tuesday evening last the boys team travelled up to Drumkeerin for the replay of the Cumann na mBunscol Division one final against Ballinamore.

To reach this stage the boys lost to Ballinamore in the first game by 3-05 to 2-04, and they defeated Leitrim Village by 3-10 to 3-9, Drumshanbo by 1-15 to 1-03, Mohill by 1-16 to 1-07 and Carrick-on-Shannon by 2-07 to 2-04. These results put them into the final against Ballinamore, which was played on Wednesday 15th June in Ballinaglera. In a game of great quality the final result ended in a draw on a scoreline of 2-10 to 2-10. This meant they had to do it all over again on Tuesday evening last-21st June in Drumkeerin. Ballinamore raced into a two point lead early in the game, but Kinlough gradually got into the game and managed to go into the break at half-time leading by a point. They never lost the lead from there until the final whistle. The crucial score came with about five minutes to go when Micheal O Hanlon picked up the ball, beat three players and scored a wonderful goal. Ballinamore responed by scoring a goal with a minute remaining to leave a point in it, but Kinlough backs stood firm to hold on for a very tense but brilliant victory on a scoreline of 1-07 to 1-06.

Great scenes of joy greeted the final whistle as Kinlough boys won the Division one league for the second time and the first since 2001. It was a thoroughly deserved victory and just reward for these lads who have trained in rain and sunshine all year and gave nothing less than 100% in every game. they have been a credit to their school and their families and themselves all year and they are now proudly the best team in Leitrim.

The team and panel who managed to bring this title back to Kinlough again was: David Mc Gloin, Christopher |Connolly, Sean Gallagher, John Langan, Keith Mc Gloin, Rory Sheridan, James Mc Gowan, Conall Mc Gowan, Paul Simpson (Captain), Brion Mc Gowan, Michael O Hanlon, Jonathon Connolly, David Mc Gowan, Shauna Ryan, Alan Russell, Paul Russell, Thomas Ferrari, Lorcan Lynch, Davin Mc Gloin, Jason Roynane, Niall Kerr, Pierce Brennan, Conor Gallagher, Aiden Mc Govern, Trevor Mc Aleenan, Colm Connolly, Kevin Sweeney, Ryan Harley-Warnock, Patrick Lynch, Joseph Gouldie , Paul Brennan, Aiden Loughlin, Aaron Mc Gurrin and Cathal Daly.

We would like to thank the fantastic support the lads had all year, but especially for the two finals. It was like an extra player. Best of luck to all the sixth class boys who move into secondary school next year, and thank you for your commitment to the schools team during your time here. We hope you continue to play Gaelic games well into the future.

A big word of thanks to all the people who organised the fantastic homecoming party that the panel received when they arrived back in Kinlough. It was a fitting tribute and appreciation of the hard work and effort that the boys have shown all year and a perfect end to a great day for the school. Well done to all concerned. Finally hard luck to Ballinamore who put up a great show in the final and we look forward to meeting them again in years to come.

Congratulations to all the teachers for their great work, but particularly Marie Clare O Connell, John Faughnan and Stephen Connolly.
