Club Notes 12th July 2005
Senior Championship
Last Saturday evening the Gaels Senior team travelled to Bornacoola where they took on last years champions Annaduff in the first round of this year’s championship.
The game ended in a draw, Annaduff 1-7, Melvin Gaels 0-10, and this was probably a fair result.
This was a hard fought game played in conditions which most of the players would only encounter when in Ibiza on well-earned breaks.
The game was played at a great pace and must have been very enjoyable for the ‘neutrals’.
There were some great patches of football played by both teams and considering Annaduff were two points ahead going into the final minutes of the game, the Gaels did very well to get a draw.
The Gaels led at half time by one point and should have been more ahead but missed a number of chances.
Annaduff got the all-important goal in the second half and proved that they will be hard to dethrone this year.
The Melvin Gaels team and scorers was: Gareth Phelan, Padraig Mc Gloin, James Phelan, Adam Regan, Colm Mc Gowan, Joe Tiffoney, Colin Regan, David Mc Nulty, BB Brennan (0-1), David Mc Sharry (0-7), Martin Mc Carron (0-1), Paul Mc Gurran (0-1), Damien Sheridan, Gareth Foley and Thomas Lipsett.
Subs: Daniel Branley, Shane Mc Carron, Peter Mc Gloin, Larry Maxwell, Jessie Mc Guinness, Michael Tiffoney, Conor Sheridan, Larry Maxwell and Stephen Clancy.
Thanks to the Annaduff Club for arranging food for the Melvin Gaels players after the game
The next game for the Seniors will be against Ballinaglera and this is due to be played next weekend. No time or venue has been decided to date.
