Club Notes 22nd August 2005
Senior
Championship
The Seniors bowed out of the Championship last Saturday evening in Carrick on Shannon when they were beaten by the narrowest of margins by Aughawillan.
The Gaels started the game well but faded badly in the first half. They trailed by
five paints at half time and were faced with an uphill battle in the second half.
They performed much better in the second half and managed to get in front. In the end Aughawillan came back and won by a point. The Gaels had chances to get the equalising score, but alas it was not to be.
This was a great Championship campaign by the Gaels and great credit must go to Barbour and Jimmy.
They are guaranteed football in the top division next year and avoided the dogfight to survive.
With the continued commitment shown this year and the good discipline shown on the field of play by all concerned there is no doubt that the future for the Gaels looks good.
The fact that all levels of underage teams have done so well is an indication of the amount of young players coming on stream.
I ask that no player on this senior panel contemplate retiring just yet as the Gaels have the ability to achieve the success they deserve.
Junior Championship
Melvin Gaels Juniors take on Eslin next Sunday in the Junior A Semi Final.
They have done well in the Championship after a disappointing League campaign.
Good luck to the managers and panel.
It would be nice to see some more support for the team.
Under 12 Success
Congratulations to the Melvin Gaels Under 12 team that defeated Mohill in the county championship last Thursday evening in Drumkeerin.
Well done to Peter Sheridan who is charge of this team
This is the fifth success for Kinlough teams in underage competitions in 2005.
Meeting
There is a club meeting on Wednesday night at 9pm.
