Club Notes 25th April 2005

Senior League V Allen Gaels
Last Sunday the Melvin Gaels senior team travelled to Drumshanbo and took on Allen Gaels. Again this was a case when the north Leitrim Gaels came home defeated.

As was the case last week Melvin Gaels found it hard to get into the game and Allen Gaels started well with four unanswered points.

Melvin Gaels then got into the game and they scored six unanswered points to go in at half time leading by two points, 0-6 to 0-4.

Melvin Gaels started the second half well and scored a goal, but this was their last score of the game.

Allen Gaels came back into the game and got a goal and they then took over and went on to win by three points.

Melvin Gaels are playing some good football at times, but don’t seem to be able to get the vital scores to go on and win matches.

The final score was Allen Gaels 1-9 Melvin Gaels 1-6.

The Melvin Gaels team and scorers was: Gareth Phelan, Padraig Mc Gloin, James Phelan, Shane Mc Carron, Joe Tiffoney, Fabian Mc Morrow, Paul Mc Gurran (0-1), Peter Mc Gloin, Colin Regan, Damien Sheridan, Martin Mc Carron (0-1), Joe Mc Gowan (0-1), Gareth Foley (0-3), David Mc Sharry and Paul Mc Gowan (1-0).

Subs: Jesssie Mc Guinness, Simon Foley, and Michael Tiffoney.

The next senior game for Melvin Gaels is in two weeks time and it is a home game against Aughavas.

Under 16s are League Champions!
The Under 16s went to Carrick on Shannon last Friday evening and took on Carrigallen in the League final.

I was once again a close encounter and the Gaels came out on top on a score line of Melvin Gaels 0-10 Carrigallen 0-8.

This was a great achievement by this very young team and a lot of credit must go to Michael Mc Gowan and Damien Foy who put a lot of work into this team.

Congratulations to the entire panel of players involved.

The Melvin Gaels team and scorers was: Patrick Kilkenny, Niall Mc Enroy, Damien Mc Aleenan, Sean Kilkenny, Paul Hill, Shane Ryan, Packie Hill, Stephen Gallagher (0-2), Paul Rooney (0-7), James Bredin (0-1), Paul Foy, Declan Clancy and Andrew Mc Gowan.

Subs: Matthew Branley, Stephen Mc Gowan, Patrick Mc Gowan, Sean Burke, Anthony Rooney, Damien Hill and David Clancy.

Junior League V Annaduff
The Melvin Gaels junior team made the long journey to Annaduff on Saturday evening and came away with a four point win. This was the juniors first win in the League and it was badly needed. It was a hard fought contest and the Gaels produced some good football, particularly from the veterans in the team.

The final score was Melvin Gaels 2-8 Annaduff 1-7.

The Melvin Gaels team and scorers was: Michael Mc Gowan, Larry Maxwell, Fergal Mc Gowan, John Mc Gowan, Sean Lipsett, Michael Tiffoney, David Gillespie, David Mc Nulty (1-2), Damien Sheridan, Fergal Gallagher (0-2), Gerry Mc Gurran, Seamus Gallagher (0-2), Simon Foley (0-1), Francis Mc Gloin, Blaine Mulligan (1-1)

Sub: Kevin Corby.

Thanks to the Annaduff club for providing food after the game.
