Club Notes 18th April 2005
Senior League V
Kiltubrid
The seniors travelled to Kiltubrid last Saturday evening and were defeated by five points in a high scoring and entertaining game. Both teams played some good football at times but the Gaels took too long to get into the game and Kiltubrid started well and scored 1-1 in the first ten minutes. The game was 15 minutes old when the Gaels registered their first score.
They say goals win matches and this was certainly the case on Saturday evening when Kiltubrid scored four. The Gaels never got ahead in this game but they showed a lot of character coming back at one stage from seven points down to within a point.
Even though the Gaels lost this match I feel they will play worse in games and win.
The Melvin Gaels team and scorers was : Gareth Phelan, Padraig Mc Gloin, James Phelan, Shane Mc Carron, Colm Mc Gowan, Fabian Mc Morrow, Joe Tiffoney (0-1),
Colin Regan ( 1-0), Peter Mc Gloin (0-1), David Mc Sharry, Martin Mc Carron (0-5),
Gareth Foley (0-1), Thomas Lipsett (1-0), Paul Mc Gurran, Joe Mc Gowan.
Subs : Damien Sheridan, Michael Tiffoney, Paul Mc Gowan, Fergal Gallagher, Larry Maxwell, Jessie Mc Guinness.
Thanks to the Kiltubrid Club for supplying food after the game.
The Gaels seniors have another tough outing next Sunday when they travel to Drumshanbo and meet Allen Gaels.
Under 16 League Final
Melvin Gaels Under 16 team took on Carrigallen in a Division 2 League Final last Friday evening in Pairc Sean Carrick on Shannon. This was a great game and it ended in a draw. This was a great performance by the young Gaels team as they had been beaten in Kinlough in an earlier game against Carrigallen by seventeen points.
At half time the Gaels led by 0-7 to 0-2. Carrigallen came back with two goals in the second half and with the aid of a Donal Clancy goal went ahead. Carrigallen levelled again to set up a replay.
