Club Notes 22nd November 2004

Under 21 B Champions!
There were jubilant scenes in Carrick on Shannon last Saturday afternoon when the Melvin Gaels Under 21 team won the B Championship for the second year in succession.

This was a great achievement for these young players and augers well for the future of the Club.

This was a hard fought game, which was played in terrible conditions. Melvin Gaels put in a very good performance in the first half and went in four points ahead at half time. They failed to score in the second half and had to defend well for long periods. Drumkeerin are a good team and missed a number of goal chances in the second half. The Gaels had to play well to win this final and there were some great performances all over the field, particularly in defence.

The loss of BB Brennan for the final was a big blow to the Gaels, but it shows the quality of the squad when they went on to win.

The final score was Melvin Gaels 1-3 Drumkeerin 0-4.

The Melvin Gaels team and scorers was:

Michael Mc Gowan, Kalem Regan, Colm Mc Gowan, Kevin Kelly, Fabian Mc Morrow, Paul Mc Gurran, Bernard Mc Gowan, Brendan Mc Govern, Joseph Mc Gowan, Damien Sheridan, Stephen Mc Gurran, David Mc Sharry (0-3) and Thomas Lipsett (1-0)

Subs: Peter Mc Gloin, Fergal Gallagher, Blaine Mulligan, Christopher Branley, Kieran Regan, Dermot Clancy, Matthew Mc Gloin Emlyn Mulligan and Stephen Clancy.

Congratulations to Gareth Phelan and everyone concerned.

Thanks to the Village Inn Kinlough for supplying the food back after the Final.
