Club Notes 24th May 2004

Sympathy
There was a feeling of shock and sadness last week when the news broke of the sudden and tragic death of Ed Connolly, Tullaghan.  Ed played for a number of years for the Gaels and his untimely death shocked the Club.  Deepest sympathy is extended to his wife Maura and his brothers and sisters.

Senior Game V Gortletterragh
On Sunday morning the Senior team made the long trip to Gortletterragh and suffered another narrow defeat.  The final score was Gortletterragh 1-8 Melvin Gaels 0-8.  This game was decided by a ‘spectacular own goal’ from Melvin Gaels.  This was as sweet a ‘chip’ as you are likely to see in any code, but I doubt very much if the scorer will be proud of it.

Nothing seems to be going right for the Gaels. Melvin Gaels played some good football at times but as is common could not finish.

The Melvin Gaels team and scorers was:

Gareth Phelan , Matt Connolly, James Phelan, Padraig Mc Gloin, Colm Mc Gowan, Colin Regan, Kevin Kelly, Aiden Dolan, BB Brennan, Joe Mc Gowan, Damien Sheridan, Paul Mc Gurran, Thomas Lipsett (0-1), Michael Tiffoney (0-1), David Mc Sharry (0-6)

Subs: Peter Mc Gloin, Paul Lipsett, Shane Mc Carron and Fergal Mc Gowan.

Thanks to the Gortletterragh Club for the food after the game.

Missing Supporters
On Sunday some of the Melvin Gaels supporters went on a scenic tour of south Leitrim and ended up at the game in Gortletterragh just as the game was finishing.  It would be a good idea if somebody could come up with a ‘ map’ showing the best routes to games venues in the south of the county!

Leitrim Supporters Club Draw
A belated word of thanks to Patrick Mc Nulty, Rossinver who sold so many Leitrim Supporters Club Draw tickets on behalf of Melvin Gaels for this year’s draw.

Patrick has been a great supporter of the Gaels down the years and his support is very much appreciated by the Club.

The Playing Field at Melvin Park is now available for Games.  All trainers are asked to use the training ground for training.  The FAS workers are now putting up the fence and constructing the Dugouts.  People in charge of teams are also asked to clean up the Dressing Rooms and showers after use.

Club Meeting
There will be a Club Meeting held at 9pm on Wednesday night.  A good attendance is requested, as there are some important issues to be discussed.

Membership
Membership is now due for this year and €20 should be paid as soon as possible to Noel Mc Gowan.  Entry to Lotto and membership for €50 can be paid if anyone wishes.

Forms for this can be got from any club member.

Bord na Nog

Membership- Due to the large increase in Insurance and affiliation Bord na Nog has, regrettably, increase the cost of Club Membership. This will now cost €10 for members from Under 10 to Minor. Payment should be made to Club Treasurer, Peter Sheridan.

Please note that any player who will be playing Under 21 membership must pay senior membership which costs €20.

Even though the cost of Insurance has increased this year, the cover is excellent.

Please note that all Bord na Nog Club Mentors and Trainers and others involved with the Club in any way, are asked to pay their membership in order to avail of the cover available.
