Club Notes 3rd June 2004
Senior
Game v Drumreilly
At Melvin Park on Saturday evening
last, Melvin Gaels has their first Senior League win of the year. They beat
Drumreilly by 1 point. Final score was 1-12 to 2-8. This was a closely fought
encounter, and Drumreilly may be disappointed to have lost the game. The Gaels
started the game in fine form, and scored some very good points, they went ahead
in the first 10 minutes and were cruising.
The last 10 minutes of the first half Drumreilly went through a purple patch, they scored 2 good goals, and hit the post on two other occasions. The Gaels were knocked back, and were 4 points down at half time.
After half time the Gaels had their own great period, and scored some great points to go ahead. Both teams missed chances in this game, and the Gaels had what appeared a good goal disallowed in the first half, as well as missing an open goal chance. When the game finished the Melvin Gaels crowd were delighted to get their first Senior win.
The Melvin Gaels team and scores was: Gareth Phelan, Padraig McGloin, Fabian McMorrow, Matt Connolly, Paul McGurran, Colin Regan, Colm McGowan, Micheal Tiffoney, James Phelan, Thomas Lipsett (0-3), Damien Sheridan, Joseph McGowan, BB Brennan (1-3), Liam Gilmartin (0-1), David McSharry (0-4).
Subs: Martin McCarron (0-1), Simon Foley, Shane McCarron, Anthony Tiffoney.
Best wishes, and speedy recovery to Liam Gilmartin, Michael Tiffoney and Thomas Lipsett, who all received injuries in the game.
Good to see Anthony Tiffoney back in the fold again.
Thanks to the Wellington Bar for supplying the sandwiches after the game.
