Club Notes 12th July 2004

Junior League Final

Last Friday evening in the sunshine of Drumkeerin, the Gaels Junior team were defeated by Annaduff in the League Final.

This was a close fought encounter and at times it looked as if Melvin Gaels could have won the match.

The Gaels started well and some excellent free taking by Paul Mc Gurran was the difference between the teams. Annaduff finished the first half much stronger and were five points ahead at the break.

Melvin Gaels made a great comeback in the second half and drew level with about ten minutes to go.

It was then that disaster struck for the Gaels. Annaduff were awarded a forty five, even though the umpire (not a Melvin Gaels umpire) signalled a wide, and from the resulting kick the ball was deflected to the Melvin Gaels net.

It was the all over for the Gaels and Annaduff won the match on a final score of 2-8 to 0-11.

The Melvin Gaels team and scorers was: Aaron Phelan, Kevin Kelly, Paul Mc Gowan, Colm Mc Gowan, Gareth Foley, Joe Mc Gowan, Michael Tiffoney (0-1) Paul Mc Gurran (0-8 all frees), Peter Mc Gloin (0-1) Damien Sheridan, Thomas Lipsett, Fergal Gallagher, Gerry Mc Gurran and Simon Foley.

Subs: Liam Gilmartin, David Gillespie, Adam Regan, Bernard Mc Gowan, Shane Mc Carron, Seamus Gallagher,Kevin O Flaherty and Kevin Corby.

Well done to this team for reaching the final and doing so well in the league.
